The late Sunil Thapa features in Himalayan Gold, whose official trailer is now out ahead of its November 20, 2026 release.
The late Sunil Thapa’s screen legacy continues with Himalayan Gold, whose official trailer is now available to watch. Featuring Parikshya Limbu in a central role alongside Thapa and Karma Shakya, the Nepali survival film brings a dangerous mountain journey to cinemas on November 20, 2026, corresponding to Mangsir 4.
The release carries particular meaning for viewers who followed Thapa’s career. The filmmakers are presenting Himalayan Gold as his final film and describe taking his performance to audiences in Nepal and abroad as a tribute to his contribution to cinema.

Directed by Dhiraaj Rajbanshi, the film follows Sonam, played by Limbu, who travels with her family to collect yarsagumba. A journey made in the hope of a better livelihood becomes a fight for survival when they encounter a gang of robbers.
At the centre of the story is a question Limbu raised at the trailer launch: what remains when a person loses everything? Her character’s struggle gives the film its focus, with the mountain setting forming the backdrop to a story of danger and survival.
Limbu described the role as a departure from the social dramas, family stories and romances she had previously worked on. She also welcomed the opportunity to lead a film, pointing to the relatively limited number of Nepali projects built around women as the main characters.
Karma similarly said the screenplay offered something different from the films he usually encounters. He welcomed Rajbanshi’s willingness to tell a story centred on a woman and his confidence that such films can find an audience. Rahul N. Mukhia and Sajan Thapa also feature in the cast.
Rajbanshi said Himalayan Gold contains no songs, placing particular importance on its background score to draw viewers into the story. He also spoke about working with an international technical team.
The filmmakers plan to take the film overseas while retaining its original Nepali dialogue. According to Rajbanshi, AA Films offered a dubbing option, but he chose subtitles to preserve the performances and the film’s original feel.
The team has announced an agreement with Anil Thadani’s AA Films for distribution across India. Plans also include screenings in markets such as Japan and Australia, with subtitles for local audiences.
For viewers, the trailer introduces a film that combines Limbu’s survival story with another opportunity to see Thapa’s work on screen. Himalayan Gold is scheduled to open on November 20.
