The Voice of Nepal Season 4 winner Karan Rai has returned with a different kind of musical presentation. His new release, ‘Mainam,’ arrives not simply as a song or a conventional music video, but as a poetic musical film that brings together voice, poetry, performance and cinematic storytelling.
Released through Karan Rai’s official YouTube channel, ‘Mainam’ features Karan himself alongside Shrishti Magar. The screen pairing of Karan and Shrishti gives the project an emotional visual identity, while the format allows the team to explore a more poetic and layered approach to Nepali music video storytelling.
The project has been written and directed by poet Uttam Tumsa Limbu, whose poetry also forms the creative backbone of the work. Uttam has not only written the poetic text but has also lent his voice through poetry narration, adding a literary depth to the musical film.
The music of ‘Mainam’ is composed by respected singer and composer Ganesh Rasik, a name closely associated with meaningful Nepali music. Karan Rai has performed the vocals, giving the piece a contemporary voice while remaining connected to a more reflective and poetic musical mood.
The sound production has been handled by Debesh Rai, who worked on the arrangement, mixing and mastering. The track was recorded at Rankashu Studio. On the visual side, the project features cinematography by DNX Hanggam, editing by Bibek Sunar, color by Milan Bishwokarma, and assistant direction by Pabitra Rai.
‘Mainam’ was officially released during a program in Lalitpur. The event was attended by well-known writer and director Upendra Subba, popular poet Swapnil Smriti, and writer Shyam Singak. After watching the film, Upendra Subba remembered the musical legacy of Ganesh Rasik and praised the creative efforts of Karan Rai and Uttam Tumsa Limbu. Swapnil Smriti and Shyam Singak also appreciated the work during the program.
For Karan Rai, ‘Mainam’ marks a notable creative move after his rise to wider popularity through The Voice of Nepal Season 4. Instead of following a familiar commercial music video formula, he has chosen a more artistic route, one that connects song with poetry and visual mood.
The release also comes at a time when Nepali music videos are experimenting with stronger narratives and cinematic presentation. ‘Mainam’ stands out because it does not rely only on melody or performance; it builds its atmosphere through poetry, acting, music and visuals.
For audiences who enjoy meaningful Nepali music, poetic expression and visually rich storytelling, ‘Mainam’ offers a fresh experience. It is a project that may appeal not only to Karan Rai’s fans but also to viewers who are interested in the growing intersection of Nepali music, literature and cinema.
