‘Lalibazar’ Trailer Reveals Shocking Reality of Marginalized Community

Watch the powerful trailer of Lalibazar, starring Swastima Khadka, highlighting a mother’s struggle against generational oppression in a marginalized community.

The trailer of the Nepali film Lalibazar is out, and it hits hard with a story rooted in reality.

Directed and written by Yam Thapa, the film focuses on the life of a mother from the marginalized Badi community. Swastima Khadka plays a woman determined to break a painful cycle, fighting to free her daughter from a system that has controlled generations and to give her a safe, educated future.

The trailer, released on the occasion of Mother’s Day (Aama Ko Mukh Herne Din), leans heavily into emotion, showing the strength and sacrifice of a mother who refuses to accept the life forced upon her child.

At its core, Lalibazar explores the harsh reality of the “Naththi” system, a long-practiced tradition where daughters are bound under the control of landlords from birth, leading to exploitation. The film brings this hidden story to the screen with a clear message of resistance and women’s empowerment.

Rabindra Singh Baniya appears as the landlord, while the cast also includes Mukunda Shrestha, Bishal Devkota, Prashansa Subedi, Samaira Thapa, and Abhay Baral.

Produced by Max Dipesh Khatri and Rabindra Singh Baniya under the banner of Shatkon Arts (known for films like Talakjung vs Tulke, Jatra series, and Mahapurush), the film already carries strong expectations.

Lalibazar is set for nationwide release on Baishakh 18 (early May).
